de Bono's Green Thinking Hat
(Raven Gets Sick)
Print out and distribute a Plot Profile sheet for students to track their thinking for the Raven Tales episode Raven Gets Sick. The students should view the episode and record what they feel are ten significant plot events. Once the plot profile is complete, students should look at the episode with de Bono's Green Thinking Hat in mind (ie. What would they add or change in the story?)
Note: It is important that the teacher reinforces the concept of 'Wearing a Green Hat'. The 'Green Hat' is an opportunity for the students to be creative, explore alternatives, and think outside the box. Students can look at Raven Gets Sick and consider many different ideas, which can include:
- What different decisions could the characters make?
- How could the characters act differently?
- What new characters could be added to the story?
- Where else could the story take place?
- What different endings could the story have?

Reminder: It is important to stop throughout the video and give students (A/B partners) opportunity to talk or respond to the video.
Once the video is complete, student partner groups report out to the class. Teacher records the significant plot events on the board for students to reference.
Using their Graphic Organizer as a writing guide, students re-write Raven Gets Sick in their own words; changing either the story setting, the entire plot of the episode, or one/two plot events. Students should use the same characters from the story but other characters can be added. The written piece may take many forms which can include:
- Journal write or narrative story
- TV or radio episode script format
- Drama presentation
- Graphic story with text
